The mentorship programme strives to support international students during their studies in Hungary. Mentors have multiple roles, such as aiding in administrative affairs and organising accommodation for their mentees. Issues such as language barriers and Hungarian bureaucracy are alleviated by the mentors on a one-to-one basis, ensuring that their mentee never feels alone.
The mentors are always thinking of new ideas to support the international students. At the meeting, ideas arose of potential problems that students might endure when they arrive in Hungary. The mentors discussed guides that may be made for the new students — guides which include lists of budget-safe grocery stores and gyms that offer student discounts. There were ideas of events which can be executed throughout the academic year, for example, a board game night which students can attend to socialise.
The ITK mentors are an intimate team which is always eager to lend a helping hand. When they weren’t discussing the needs of their mentees, they were playing icebreaker games to get to know the newest mentors of their ever-expanding team. The old mentors, as well as the international coordinators, answered any questions that the new mentors had about their incoming mentees. There was a brief deliberation during the meeting for pizza, snacks, and socialisation. A mix of Hungarian and international students, the mentorship programme is a great way to enrich one’s life with the diverse cultures of PPKE ITK.
