As we reported earlier, a delegation from our university, consisting of colleagues working in international relations, visited Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Like other Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan has a Muslim majority, but there is also a significant presence of Russian Orthodox Christians and a small Catholic community. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Apostolic Administrator Anthony James Corcoran, S.J. and Parish Priest Remigiusz Kalski, who shared fascinating insights about the history and present situation of the Catholic community in Kyrgyzstan.
Both hosts greatly appreciated the visit from a European Catholic university and expressed their enthusiasm for possible collaboration with our institution. They highlighted the "Faith and Reason" theological project, which focuses on Christianity in Central Asia and already includes partner universities such as Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and Ignatianum University in Kraków. The meeting was also attended by Mr. György Tar, Consul at the Embassy of Hungary in Bishkek.
Following the church visit, the delegation continued its program at the Embassy of Hungary in Bishkek, where they were welcomed by Consul György Tar and First Secretary Zsolt Maris. During the discussions, both sides explored the opportunities provided by the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program and the potential for strengthening inter-university relations.
