The research group investigates various physiological barriers (whole skin, epidermis, epidermis-dermis, cornea, retina, intestine, nasal mucosa, etc.) under physiological and pathological conditions. We test various drugs and drug formulations for their penetra-tion through these barriers. We also test and develop innovative pharmaceutical products and medical devices using physical, chemical, and biological methods. One of our main research areas is wound healing and the development of smart dressings.
The other is the testing of cosmetics, which analyzes their effects on various skin properties (elasticity, barrier function, integrity, hydration, color, melanin content, erythema index, surface pH, etc.). Many BSc and MSc students work in the lab. Tutored Research Projects and Guided Individual Study tasks are performed at our lab, and those working on their diploma theses carry out the experiments. We participate in numerous national and international collaborations and present our results at congresses and workshops.

Our research project on the development of smart dressings in cooperation with the Visegrad countries and Ukraine has won EU funding. We presented this poster at the EWMA-DEWU 2026 Congress in Bremen this spring.
Future research directions, collaboration opportunities
Our research group cooperates closely with Tallinn University of Technolog, Polish medical and technical universities, Slovak partners, as well as French universities and national companies in the field of cosmetic research. Students and researchers have the opportunity to participate in various exchange programs and complete mandatory internships with our national and international partners.
