  • Biomolecular Data Interpretation  

Over the past decade, the advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods has sparked a significant transformation in personalized medicine, providing an affordable and efficient diagnostic foundation. Presently, emerging trends encompass single-cell analysis techniques that facilitate the exploration of tissue heterogeneity, particularly within tumors. Furthermore, novel high-throughput techniques are converging with NGS, contributing to advancements in areas such as 3D protein structure prediction, proteomics, and metabolomics analysis. The ability to interpret the outcomes derived from these investigations is paramount in contemporary molecular biology and medicine, and its significance is poised to intensify. 

Our specialization in Biomolecular Data Interpretation offers an array of courses encompassing diverse aspects of data processing and analysis. Beyond NGS, our curriculum comprises the functional analysis of DNA and protein sequences, proteomics studies, and macromolecular modelling. These dimensions are integral to comprehending and influencing molecular processes in the evolving landscape of molecular biology and medicine. 

 

  • Systems Biology  

The field of Systems Biology involves the quantitative analysis of extensive datasets through systematic approaches. These models elucidate biological processes by accounting for molecular interactions and offer hypotheses that can be experimentally tested. Systems biology is increasingly applied in biomedical contexts, such as predicting the impact of potential drugs and identifying molecular targets for prospective therapies. It also plays a pivotal role in enhancing our understanding of the intricate complexities of the human nervous system. Leveraging a wealth of molecular and cellular-level data, systems biology integrates them into specialized mathematical models. 

Our Systems Biology specialization is designed to equip students with a comprehensive mathematical and computational foundation. This encompasses the description of nonlinear systems and parameter estimation. The curriculum covers various data types and cellular processes relevant to systems biology models, providing a thorough overview of both current and prospective applications. Additionally, we offer specialized courses, including those with a focus on neurobiological modelling, to further enhance the skills and knowledge of our students in this dynamic field.
